About
I’m Sophie — the silversmith behind Lore.
I make everything by hand in Portland, Oregon. Every piece starts as sheet or wire and is cut, formed, soldered, and finished by me at the bench. No casting, no outsourcing, no production line. Just tools, heat, and time.
I didn’t grow up doing this. I took a metalsmithing class in my 30s and got hooked fast. Something about working with fire and metal just clicked. It’s physical, it requires attention, and it doesn’t let you rush it. That’s what kept me in it.
My work is focused on weight, texture, and structure. I’m not interested in delicate, trend-based jewelry. I want pieces to feel solid when you pick them up. Sterling silver that has some presence. Stones that look like themselves, not overly polished into something generic.
A lot of what I make is one-of-a-kind or small batch because of how it’s made. I’m cutting bezels, setting stones, shaping bands by hand. There’s variation, and I leave room for that. I’m not trying to make things identical.
Materials matter to me. So does how something wears over time. Silver will tarnish. It’s supposed to. It also comes back to life with wear and care. I like that about it.
Lore isn’t about trends or seasonal drops. It’s about making pieces that hold up physically and stylistically and that you actually keep wearing.
Everything is made by me, start to finish, in my Portland studio. Slow-made sterling silver jewelry built to be worn often, lived in, and kept for a long time.
